Government begins to ease measures gradually

WILLEMSTAD - Curaçao will gradually relax the measures in the lockdown somewhat. For example, starting tomorrow early birds can swim in the sea again. And truk'i pans (BBQ stands) and restaurants are allowed to deliver until 8 p.m.

Outgoing Prime Minister Eugene Rhuggenaath has just announced this at the press conference. “We cannot scale down as we want. But socially and economically we are looking at what is possible,” said the Prime Minister.

On April 30, the cabinet will decide on the curfew and the license plate of the day.

The measures that were eased:

You can swim in the sea again from 4.30 am to 8.00 am.

Restaurants can deliver 2 hours longer. Drive-thru restaurants may be open until 6 PM.

Cars can go to a car wash again. Drivers must remain in the car.

A maximum of 10 people may be present in a room at funerals. A total of 25 people may be present at the funeral.

Church services cannot yet take place on Sundays but can organize certain religious services during the week. Only those who can use their car on that day may attend. No more than 25 people in the building and social distancing remains in force. The car-free Sunday remains.

Employees are still required to work from home as much as possible. People who really have to go to work should have an exemption.

All other precautions remain in effect.

Epidemiologist Izzy Gerstenbluth indicated that today's corona figures are not yet known, but the number of infections continues to decrease and he expects that this will also be the case today. "The r-number remains below 1. The measures help and the vaccination also contributes to the reduction of the number of infections."

The pressure on healthcare is still a point of concern, Gerstenbluth emphasizes. There are still many patients in the hospital.
