Gasoline prices to rise, diesel prices to fall

WILLEMSTAD - Motorists in Curaçao will see changes in fuel prices starting April 2nd, with gasoline prices set to increase while diesel prices are expected to decrease. The Bureau of Telecommunication and Post attributes the hike in gasoline prices to the recent surge in the global trade price.

As of Tuesday, the price of a liter of gasoline will jump by slightly over eleven cents, reaching almost 2.27 guilders from the current price of around 2.16 guilders. In contrast, diesel prices will experience a decline, with motorists paying slightly more than 1.82 guilders per liter at the pump, down from the current price of 1.89 guilders.

The reduction in diesel prices is primarily driven by a decrease in the purchase price. Additionally, pump owners will benefit from adjustments based on the value of their inventories during price changes, allowing for a downward adjustment in diesel prices.

Water and Electricity Rates

In addition to fuel prices, water and electricity rates will also undergo changes effective April 1st. Water prices will decrease by almost thirteen cents for the first nine cubic meters, with one thousand liters costing nearly 8.70 guilders compared to the previous price of slightly over 8.82 guilders. Consumers exceeding 20 cubic meters of water consumption will be charged 17.75 guilders per thousand liters for the excess usage.

Electricity tariffs will be set at 63 cents per kilowatt-hour for the initial 250 kWh starting Monday, representing a reduction of just over one and a half cents. However, higher consumption will result in increased charges, with prices rising to 78 cents per kilowatt-hour for usage above 350 kWh.
