Gasoline price approaching three guilders per liter

WILLEMSTAD - The price for a liter of gasoline will increase by more than 31 cents on Tuesday 28 June and will cost 2.95 guilders at the gas station. Never before has the price been so high. Diesel is also rising sharply. If drivers now pay 2.34 guilders rounded off for a liter, from Tuesday that will be more than 17 cents more. Then a liter costs almost 2.51 guilders.

The actual price of a liter of gasoline is actually a quarter higher and for diesel even 28 cents. This amount is paid by all taxpayers, regardless of whether they have a car or not.

The government has determined this discount through a ministerial regulation and wanted to compensate the motorist with this. But because the price continues to rise, reality has rendered the scheme obsolete.

2022

A liter of gasoline cost 2.31 guilders on 1 January of this year and has since been increased by steps ranging from two cents, fourteen to sixteen cents and now more than 31 cents. The highest price increase this year. In total drivers now pay almost 64 cents per liter more compared to the beginning of this year.

On January 1, diesel still cost 1.71 guilders, in April and May price increases of 36 and 37 cents were added. The price of 2.51 now means a total increase of more than 35 cents per liter since January 1.

In order to mitigate the extremely high price increase on the international market, it was decided to implement this in two steps. This softening will have to be corrected in the coming months.
