WILLEMSTAD - Women who give birth are now entitled to 48 hours of maternity care. Karien de Haan and Corine Muijsson announced this.
Women had previously always been entitled to at least 24 hours of maternity care, but in reality they were given a maximum of twelve hours and often even less. Days in the hospital were also deducted from the care, which means that women sometimes only received one or two days of home maternity care instead of six.
After correspondence with both the Social Insurance Bank (SVB) that reimburses the care, the maternity clinic and the minister of health, women can now choose between three packages of maternity care: 12 hours, 24 hours or 48 hours. All packages are fully reimbursed, and hospital days are no longer deducted from this.
Maternity care must be requested through Maternity Clinic Fundashon Duna Lus.
