WILLEMSTAD – The floating artwork WAITING has been unveiled at the Waaigat in Curaçao, a project led by Elvis Chen in collaboration with Sofie De Vroed and Estebe Duin Rodrigues. The installation will remain on display until March 2025.
This artwork marks the conclusion of the international collaboration project "Your Contemporary Demons" (Jouw Hedendaagse Demonen), which brought together six organizations from the Netherlands and Curaçao. The project began at Instituto Buena Bista (IBB) in Curaçao and concluded at Het Curaçaos Museum.
From Exhibition to Floating Installation
A key element of the project was the INTROSPECTIVES exhibition, first showcased at Willem Twee Kunstruimte in Den Bosch and later at Het Curaçaos Museum. The WAITING installation was part of this exhibition and has now embarked on its final journey at Waaigat.
Exploring Contemporary Demons
The project was based on the question: “What are our contemporary demons?” This exploration led to the identification of four key themes: perspective, uncertainty, waiting, and confrontation. These themes were further developed and realized in various artistic expressions, including "The Garden of Earthly Delights", with the enthusiastic participation of volunteers from ’s-Hertogenbosch.
The final outcome is a mini-armada of diverse vessels, brought together in a coordinated composition and choreography of movement and sound, telling a complete story in just a few minutes.
