First day of school is August 11

WILLEMSTAD - The first day of school of the new school year is Thursday 11 August. Minister of Education Sithree van Heydoorn announced this to parliament in a letter.  

 

The total number of vacation days in education is 61. Christmas and major holidays take up almost half of this. The Christmas holidays start on Thursday 22 December, everyone is expected back at school on Monday 9 January.  

 

The autumn break does not fall in the week of October 3, as previously announced, but in the week of October 10, the Day of the country Curaçao. This week is called the Mid-term holiday.

  

Carnival falls on the week of February 20 next year. Then the schools will be closed for a week, just like the children's carnival, a week earlier, on February 13.  

 

Because King's Day falls on a Thursday, Friday 28 April is also a day off and the children are not expected back at school until Tuesday 2 May.  

The summer holiday starts on Thursday, July 6, 2023. The first school day of the next school year, 2023-2024, will be Thursday, August 10.
