WILLEMSTAD - Financial accountability and transparency are crucial for the planned temporary relocation of the Curaçao Parliament, several parliamentarians stressed during a public meeting on Thursday.
The move is necessary due to ongoing work at the Joint Court of Justice building. Three potential locations are being considered for the temporary relocation, including Fort Amsterdam and the Aqualectra building near Rif. The intended duration of the temporary housing is between two to three years.
Parliament member Gwendell Mercelina (PNP) warned that the relocation must not become a financial debacle, urging for clear cost breakdowns. Fellow parliament member Sheldry Osepa (PNP) echoed concerns over previous problematic construction projects, submitting a motion alongside Mercelina to prevent similar issues from recurring.
