Feed-in tariffs for sustainably generated electricity 2024

WILLEMSTAD - Since November 16, 2011, individuals and businesses in Curaçao have had the opportunity to generate electricity for their own use in a sustainable manner, in combination with a grid connection. At present, rates for feeding electricity back into the grid consist of compensation at NAf 0.25 per kWh of electricity returned, along with a payable fixed fee of NAf 8.00, NAf 16.00, or NAf 24.00 per installed kWp per month.

The growth of the market for PV installations continued and strengthened in 2023. The primary factor contributing to this growth is the significant decrease in the acquisition costs of a PV installation and the relatively high regular end-user electricity rates in 2023. The high electricity rates have a favorable impact on the payback period for end-users with their own sustainable electricity production for personal use, due to the resulting savings.

Based on the annual evaluation in accordance with the 'Tariff Guideline for Small-Scale Sustainable Power Supply,' the Government of Curaçao has decided to keep the above-mentioned rates unchanged. The fixed monthly fees, payable to cover the costs for the use and availability of the network, network connection, and production capacity, will be maintained. The rate for returned electricity will also be maintained at NAf 0.25 per kWh, as it is reasonably aligned with the costs of other sustainably produced electricity as part of the fuel clause.
