Employees voice concerns about future refinery

WILLEMSTAD - The unrest among staff and former employees of the refinery is increasing. Uncertainty towards the end of the year is increasing and many of them are afraid of being out of a job in the new year. That is why a meeting was held last Wednesday about the future of the refinery.

The (former) employees have no confidence in the process of Refineria di Kòrsou (RdK) to find a new strategic partner for the refinery.

The meeting was chaired by the PWFC and Apri trade unions, representing the refinery's workforce. "The employees and former employees are very concerned," Gherrel Remilia, Apri's foreman, indicated.

“They have expressed doubts about how the process is going so far to find a new strategic partner for the refinery. And also, the fact that it has been announced that more employees will be dismissed again in December is a cause for concern.”

On Monday, the unions have a meeting with Prime Minister Eugene Rhuggenaath and RdK acting director Marcelino de Lannoy. In doing so, the trade unions will discuss the various issues raised by the refinery staff with the Prime Minister and De Lannoy. “Then we'll see how we proceed,” said Remilia.
