WILLEMSTAD - Elderly care institution Birgen di Rosario with 250 employees and four locations has switched from one insurer to another for the pension provision of the employees.
This caused unrest with the staff that organized a "walk-out" on Monday under the supervision of their union the CBV. General director Indra Rossen-Lucasius explains that the transfer is in favor of the employees and that the pension accrued elsewhere is retained and is also simply paid out when the retirement age is reached.
Because the pension contract with one institution expired, the institute decided to inquire about a better deal elsewhere and switched.
“It has not been an easy decision, and we did not go over night. We have gathered information from the appropriate authorities, requested quotes and engaged an actuary. We have done everything as transparently as possible. The employees are certainly not duped, and it is precisely in the interest of the younger generation who are just starting to build up a pension,” explains Rossen-Lucasius.
“It was ultimately a business decision about a good offer.”
The managing director explains that the care did not come under threat during the protest. After the walk-out there was consultation with the trade union and the staff were also informed and they received explanations.
“I think it's a shame that some of the staff don't realize that the step we've taken is for their good. What exactly the fear is, is also unclear to me.”
