Emigration decreased in 2020

WILLEMSTAD - The number of people leaving Curaçao this year is so far less than last year. This is evident from figures from the Registrar’s Office (Kranshi).

In 2019, some 4,050 people left the island between January and the end of August. In 2020, in the same period, the counter stopped at 3500. The majority of the people left for the Netherlands, followed by Bonaire.

Many people think that due to the bad economic situation, emigration has increased this year. But so far fewer people are leaving Curaçao. At the same time, fewer people are also entering.

For example, in the first eight months of 2019, more than 1100 people exchanged the Netherlands for Curaçao. This year it concerns almost 900 people.
