Electoral Council files complaint due to uncertainty about donations

WILLEMSTAD - The Supreme Electoral Council (SEC) will file a complaint at the Public Prosecution Service (OM) about the lack of transparency regarding large donations during the last elections. This was confirmed by chairman of the SEC Raymond Pacheco Römer.

The major donors of at least a quarter of the total number of candidates during the elections are unknown. Election candidates are required by law to state via a form whether they have received donations above 5,000 guilders.

Failure to submit the data carries a fine that the Electoral Council cannot impose, but the Public Prosecution Service can. "The Council will send the letter to the Public Prosecution Service this week," Römer said.
