WILLEMSTAD - The Minister of Education, Science, Culture, and Sports (ESKD), Sithree van Heydoorn, along with his delegation, conducted an official visit to Fontys University in Tilburg. The primary goal of this visit was to create better opportunities and possibilities for Caribbean students while also learning about the pilot project for distance learning.
During the visit to Fontys University, there were extensive discussions about various initiatives that the institution has taken to ensure that Caribbean students feel at home. They have also implemented initiatives to guide the students as effectively as possible in successfully completing their studies. Minister van Heydoorn provided information about the ongoing pilot project, in which teachers from Curaçao are conducting virtual lessons in subjects such as mathematics, physics, chemistry, and geography. This initiative allows them to receive their first-degree teaching diplomas after passing the corresponding exams.
A special moment occurred when the teachers who are studying virtually from Curaçao and Curaçao students studying in the Netherlands and visiting Fontys University had the opportunity to exchange ideas with the minister. In conclusion, the minister announced that the Ministry of Education would cover the expenses of these virtual studies through a ministerial decree signed by Minister van Heydoorn. This amounts to a total value of ANG 45,000, as a contribution to the efforts the teachers are making to enrich themselves with more knowledge to better educate our children.
The visit to Fontys University is in line with Minister van Heydoorn's goal of promoting professionalism among teachers. This is a crucial step in the development of improving our education system and providing a boost to our education professionals.
