Dutch Supreme Court Issues 4,247 Rulings in 2024, Yearly Report Reveals

THE HAGUE - The Dutch Supreme Court, known as the Hoge Raad, issued 4,247 rulings in 2024, according to its recently published annual report. 

The court handled over 5,000 cases during the year, with approximately 276 being subjected to detailed judicial review. The Attorney General played a pivotal role, providing 1,391 independent legal opinions and submitting 12 cassation requests in the interest of the law. These requests focus on ensuring the proper development of the law, even in cases that cannot be pursued further from a legal standpoint. 

In addition, oversight reports were also published, evaluating the performance of the Public Prosecutor's Office. 

"The figures highlight the significant role of the Hoge Raad in safeguarding the rule of law within the Netherlands and the Caribbean part of the Kingdom," the report emphasized.
