DuraRenewable invests 200,000 guilders in an anemometer

WILLEMSTAD - Energy has become increasingly important over the years. In Curaçao there are about 20,000 households that receive electricity via the windmills at Tera Kòrá and Playa Kanoa. Curaçao obtains at least 30% of its energy from renewable energy and has managed to capture a place in the top 3 countries that take the initiative. But, a windmill cannot be installed just like that; there are several aspects that need to be taken into account. One is to measure the wind to identify the best location for installation and to determine which type of windmill will generate the most energy. In addition, the wind must be measured at different heights to determine where the most favorable wind speed occurs.

An investment of 200,000 guilders.

DuraRenewable recently invested in a state-of-the-art anemometer. The Lidar Windmeter Technology is an instrument with which the wind can be measured with exact precision and up to a height of 200 meters. This device gives a clear picture of the location where the highest wind speed takes place. DuraRenewable will start to carry out the measurements in the short term. To collect as much data as possible, a second Lidar Wind Meter will be installed in a different location in the coming months. Once DuraRenewable staff have completed their training for the Lidar, the device will be used in the Caribbean for large projects where wind measurement is essential. Of course, using local manpower and knowledge.

According to Jimmy Meyboom, the director of DuraRenewable - a Duraequipe company - the work to be done with the Lidar will create new jobs for the local labor market. Moreover, the persons who use the Lidar will follow a professional training. Duraequipe is a local company with eight years of experience in the wind industry in the Caribbean. Thanks to major work on Curaçao, Aruba and Martinique in the field of both heavy transport and the installation of windmills, Dura Renewable / Duraequipe is an indispensable company with a lot of know-how and capacity, which will be an ideal partner for any renewable wind farm. and energy project on the local market.
