Diving school: Hold oil platform liable for damage to coral reef

WILLEMSTAD - The government must act against the large ships that dock in the Boca Sami bay. They must adhere to the agreements during a storm and are obliged to sail out to sea.

This is according to diving school owner Patrick Geers from Dive Wedervoort. A large part of the coral reef was destroyed last week because of the mobile oil platform that is currently docked there when it turned on the engines at full power.

This was necessary because of a storm threatening the ship to crash against the rocks. Due to the strong force of the screws, the coral was washed away. The result: lost corals and deep pits. According to Geers, there is nothing left of the corals.

He believes that the government should hold the oil platform liable for the damage.
