Daily Meal Program stops with daily hot meals

WILLEMSTAD - Unfortunately, the Daily Meal Program (DMP) is forced to stop preparing hot meals every day. The final meals were delivered this week to those most affected by the corona crisis. There are insufficient financial resources to continue the project.

During the acute emergency in the past 2 months, DMP has succeeded in providing more than 18,000 meals. All costs, more than 150,000 guilders, were for the most part borne by initiator DeliNova. In addition, commercial and private donations have been used to scale up the project to 320 meals per day.

A request to the Red Cross Curaçao to qualify for humanitarian aid from the Netherlands (more than 14 million guilders) was rejected without consultation and without any motivation.

"We therefore have no choice but to end the daily care of the meals," said Sandra In "t Veld of DMP. “We sincerely hope that the care for our group of deprived persons will be taken over immediately by the Red Cross Curaçao, Krus Kòrá Kòrsou. Nevertheless, the DMP will continue to do its good work. We would like to thank the restaurants and distributors for their fantastic help and commitment over the past few months.”

DMP will now focus on the self-reliance of the residents of Curacao. In collaboration with various Sentro di Bario (community centers), DMP offers people without cooking facilities the opportunity to learn to cook together with healthy ingredients. As a result, DMP not only provides emergency aid, but also promotes involvement, quality of life and overall health in the residential areas. The costs for the fresh ingredients will be financed from private donations.

“With this we hope to continue to contribute to a better, sustainable and self-sufficient Curaçao.”
