“Customs officers are threatened and bribed”

WILLEMSTAD - The body scanners on Hato are useless. This is according to former customs officer Michael Thokaai.

Last week it was announced that the drug scanner is not being used, but according to Thokaai, the use makes no sense either. He states that customs personnel feel unsafe because they are recognized and threatened or bribed. Thokaai himself survived an attack on his life after he caught a smuggler who had swallowed drug pills.

According to the former customs officer, more drug dogs should be deployed to remove responsibility from customs. Or customs officers from the Netherlands should work who are not recognized.
