Curoil Bonaire Moves Closer to Acquiring Bopec Facility

KRALENDIJKCuroil Bonaire has made a significant advancement in its bid to acquire the Bopec facility. The company recently completed the first phase of its due diligence process, paving the way for more intensive negotiations to reach a final agreement. 

The acquisition aims to prioritize job preservation and energy security for Bonaire, according to Curoil. The company plans to restore and modernize the Bopec installations to meet international standards while enhancing capacity for sustainable energy. Over the past few years, Curoil has invested $17 million in developing the energy sector, showcasing its commitment to innovation and sustainability. 

Strategic Expansion for Affordable Energy Solutions 
This potential acquisition aligns with Curoil's broader strategy to make fuel supply on Bonaire more affordable and energy-efficient. Plans include expanding storage capacity at the Kaya Arauco site and introducing a gas refilling station to meet the island's growing demand for local energy solutions. 

Curoil was designated the "preferred bidder" by Bopec's curator in September 2024. The company has expressed satisfaction with the progress and emphasized that negotiations are being conducted with the best interests of the local community in mind. 

This move represents a critical step toward ensuring a more sustainable and secure energy future for Bonaire.
