Curaçaoan herbalist Dinah Veeris passes away

WILLEMSTAD - Dinah Veeris, the well-known herbalist and founder of the herb garden Den Paradera, passed away on Wednesday at the age of 85. The exact cause of her death is still unknown.

Veeris was renowned on the island as the "herb lady" due to her extensive knowledge of medicinal herbs and plants. In 1991, she founded Dinah’s Botanic and Historic Garden Den Paradera, where she conducted tours, lectures, and seminars on the use of herbs for many years.

Veeris' garden, located in the east of Curaçao next to Landhuis Klein Sint Joris, was a popular spot for both tourists and locals.

In addition to her work as an herbalist, Veeris was also active in education for many years. She began her career as a teacher in Sint Maarten and the Netherlands, but later returned to Curaçao to fully dedicate herself to the healing properties of plants.
