WILLEMSTAD – The Parliament of Curaçao will convene on Tuesday, June 17 to discuss the draft national ordinance concerning the government’s 2019 financial statements. According to the Ministry of Finance, this marks an important step in addressing long-standing delays in the country’s public financial management.
In addition to the 2019 accounts, the financial statements for 2020, 2021, and 2022 have also been completed. These were prepared with the technical assistance of the Government Audit Bureau (SOAB) and reviewed by the General Audit Chamber of Curaçao.
The corresponding draft ordinances for these years are currently under review by the Council of Advice, as part of the required legal process.
The government anticipates that the advisory process will take several months. Once the Council’s recommendations are received, the proposals may be adjusted accordingly, formally approved by the Council of Ministers, and then submitted to Parliament for consideration.
This legislative push is seen as part of broader efforts to improve financial accountability and restore timely fiscal reporting across government institutions.
