Curaçao Ombudsman Launches Investigation into Government Compliance with Court Rulings on Civil Servant Cases

WILLEMSTAD The Ombudsman of Curaçao has initiated a comprehensive investigation into how government ministries comply with judicial rulings in cases involving civil servants.

The probe covers the period from April 1, 2020 to March 31, 2025, and was prompted by reports indicating potential shortcomings in how ministries handle court decisions.

As part of the investigation, the Ombudsman has formally requested detailed information from the Prime Minister. This includes an overview of civil servant and administrative appeal cases, the rate at which court rulings are honored by various ministries, a full description of procedures followed, and a list of law firms that have represented the government in these matters. The government has been given four weeks to respond to the request.

The inquiry comes at a time when the number of civil servant cases has increased notably in 2024, according to recent disclosures from the Court of Justice. The outcome of the investigation is expected to shed light on the consistency and transparency of government conduct in legally mandated processes affecting public sector employees.
