WILLEMSTAD – The Curaçao Museum will unveil the second edition of SchoolvoorBeelden this Saturday, a special exhibition featuring original sculptures created by 800 primary school students. The opening event will take place from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM and is free and open to the public.
The exhibition showcases three-dimensional artworks produced by 38 school classes as part of the educational SchoolvoorBeeld project. Participating schools include Berg Carmel College, Coromoto College, De Meander, Emmy Bertholdschool, and the John F. Kennedy School. In total, 16 schools across the island took part in the initiative.

The project began with interactive digital lessons, where students were introduced virtually to the sculptures in the Blue Bay Sculpture Garden. Through short documentaries, they learned about various artists, the materials used, and the cultural and environmental themes behind each piece. A follow-up visit to the sculpture garden allowed them to experience the works in person and explore connections to subjects like history, geography, and biology.
Guided by renowned local artists such as Omar Sling, Avantia Damberg, Roberto Tjong-A-Meeuw, and Giovanni Abath, the students then created their own sculptures. They experimented with materials that are directly connected to the identity and natural environment of Curaçao.
The SchoolvoorBeelden exhibition not only highlights the creativity of the island’s youth, but also shows how art can enhance education by fostering critical thinking, cultural awareness, and hands-on learning. Visitors can expect an inspiring display of imagination and craftsmanship by Curaçao’s next generation of artists.
