WILLEMSTAD – Curaçao has decided to maintain the solar energy buyback rate at 0.25 Netherlands Antillean guilders (NAf) per kilowatt-hour (kWh) for 2025. This means that the rate will remain the same as it has been for the past two years, continuing to encourage solar energy production on the island.
Since November 16, 2011, both businesses and consumers on Curaçao have had the opportunity to generate their own electricity through solar panels. In addition to receiving a buyback rate for the electricity they feed back into the grid, they are also required to pay a fixed monthly fee based on the kilowatt peak (kWp) capacity of their solar installation for using the electrical grid.
Compensation for 2025
The compensation rates for 2025 will be as follows:

Market Growth Resumes
The government has announced that the market for solar panel installations resumed its growth in 2024. Despite rising installation costs and relatively low electricity tariffs for end users, the production of self-generated electricity remains an attractive option. The payback period for users producing solar energy continues to be significantly shorter compared to the international standard of 7 to 10 years.
This continued support for solar energy on Curaçao reinforces the island’s commitment to sustainable energy solutions and encourages further adoption of solar power for both residential and business applications.
