Curaçao Government to receive at least 230,000 guilders annually from parking fees in Willemstad

WILLEMSTAD - In response to questions raised in the Curaçao Parliament about the 2025 budget, the government confirmed that it will receive a minimum of 230,000 guilders annually from parking fees in the capital, Willemstad. The funds will be managed by the Stichting Willemstad Parkeer Beheer (Willemstad Parking Management Foundation), as stipulated in a prior management agreement with the new parking company.

The government clarified that the revenue from parking fees is expected to be included in the supplementary budget for 2025. As outlined in the signed agreement, Willemstad Parking Benefit District will transfer a minimum of 230,000 guilders annually to the government. This agreement formalizes the financial arrangement and ensures the revenue is consistently allocated to the country’s budget.

The Minister of Traffic, Transport, and Urban Planning (VVRP) also provided updates on the outstanding multi-million-dollar debt inherited from the previous parking management company, PAC. To address the collection of PAC’s outstanding parking fees, a management agreement was drawn up, and authorization was obtained through a national ordinance. However, the authorization only came into effect after the management period had ended.

In accordance with the agreement with PAC, the outstanding amount will be determined through arbitration. The matter remains part of ongoing discussions within the Roadmap for the “Approval of Financial Statements,” and efforts are underway to resolve the issue legally and efficiently.

This financial development is part of the government’s broader plan to improve parking management and ensure proper revenue collection in Willemstad, with the goal of supporting the city’s infrastructure and urban planning initiatives.
