WILLEMSTAD – The Curaçao government is prepared to reach a settlement with the former Sint Elisabeth Hospital (Sehos) to address outstanding debts, Finance Minister Javier Silvania indicated. Lawyer Bertie Braam has proposed that the government pay 4 million guilders to Sehos’s creditors in exchange for the transfer of ownership of the old hospital building located on the property.
The government’s offer comes with the condition that the hospital building is handed over to the state. If the settlement is not accepted, Sehos is likely to be declared bankrupt soon.
Minister Silvania emphasized the benefits of the proposal, stating that the government would quickly regain control of the building, which has been neglected for years and is deteriorating. The government intends to preserve the building for future use, he added.
This potential agreement marks a significant step toward resolving the financial and operational challenges facing the former hospital, while also protecting a valuable property for the community.
