WILLEMSTAD - From Tuesday, October 19, only fully vaccinated people will be able to attend events and sports activities on Curaçao. Prime Minister Gilmar 'Pik' Pisas announced this during the last government press conference.

Also, from October 19, the curfew will go into effect one hour later, from 1 a.m. to 4:30 a.m. The QR code, which fully vaccinated people can request via a new website, are needed to visit 'high-risk' events of more than a hundred people.

Application

In total, on Thursday 14 October 11,017 people applied to receive a QR code via the new website www.curacaohealtapp.com. The QR code that can currently only be requested by people who have been fully vaccinated - but at a later moment also by people with a recovery certificate who have already had corona - will be needed to visit large gatherings.

This includes dance events, both indoors and outdoors, parties, but also sporting events.

Not mandatory

Despite the fact that people who have not (yet) been vaccinated will soon no longer be able to do the same things as vaccinated people, the Prime Minister continues to emphasize that "vaccination is not mandatory". 99,253 people have now been vaccinated on the island.

For activities where less than a hundred people gather, visitors no longer need to register from Tuesday. "In activities where no more than 100 people gather, 50 percent of the capacity can be occupied to the maximum, there is no dancing and visitors must be able to keep the two meters social distancing rules," said Lesley Fer, head of the crisis team.

High risk

"If there is dancing at the location, but there are not a hundred people, it is again a high risk and a QR code will still have to be requested for access."

The people who are left out due to the new measures are the people who have already had corona and have not been further vaccinated. They cannot register on the website yet. Pisas asks these people and also the unvaccinated to “stay fair” as long as they choose not to be vaccinated (further).

According to Pisas, the economy and the CMC hospital cannot handle being under pressure any longer due to the corona measures.

Tourists

Tourists from the Netherlands do not have to download the Curaçao Health App if they want to go to a party. They can use their Dutch QR code.
