CTB Aims for Sustainable Tourism Growth Through Broader Visitor Market

WILLEMSTAD – The Curaçao Tourist Board (CTB) is shifting its focus toward sustainable tourism growth by expanding its reach across a broader range of visitor source markets, aiming to reduce dependency on a single region.

CTB Director Muryad de Bruin presented the board’s strategy during Global Travel Advisor Day, an event hosted by Royal Sandals. While the majority of this year’s tourists are expected to come from North America, 26,584 visitors from Europe have already been recorded. The CTB anticipates further arrivals from Brazil, Colombia, Argentina, Canada, and other parts of the Caribbean throughout the year.

A key component of the CTB’s plan is the ongoing Destination Carrying Capacity Study, which seeks to assess the island’s ability to host increasing numbers of tourists without compromising its natural resources or local quality of life.

The CTB is emphasizing quality over quantity, highlighting tourism as an engine for employment, local entrepreneurship, and cultural preservation. The board sees the industry not only as a major economic pillar but also as a means to contribute to the sustainable development of Curaçao’s communities.

By focusing on a more diversified visitor base, the CTB hopes to create a more resilient tourism sector that supports long-term prosperity and respects the island’s cultural and environmental integrity.
