WILLEMSTAD - Member of Parliament Gilbert Doran is concerned about hygiene levels in the hospitality sector. Therefore, he has proposed that the Committee for Public Health, Environment, and Nature of the parliament hold a meeting with the company Service HACCP Safety Curaçao. He wants representatives of the company to address aspects of hygiene in the hospitality industry. According to Doran, concerns about the safety of our food are increasing, especially regarding the food preparation process, where, according to the Member of Parliament, mistakes frequently occur. He advocates for companies to operate according to a 'Food Safety Plan.'
Service HACCP Safety Curaçao was established on July 10, 2016, with the aim of assisting and advising locations that sell, process, and distribute food. This includes restaurants, hotels, bakeries, roadside fish vendors, fruit and vegetable vendors, snack bars, and food vendors during carnival events or other activities. Internationally, countries such as the United States, the Netherlands, and many other European countries use the Hazard Analysis Critical Control Point (HACCP) system. However, this system is not yet anchored in local legislation in Curaçao.
