CMC pays extra attention to breast cancer month

WILLEMSTAD - The Curaçao Medical Center (CMC) is requesting extra attention for breast cancer this month. The annual breast cancer month starts on October 1.

This month focuses on the most common cancer in women. One in seven women is diagnosed with breast cancer.

The CMC wants to create more awareness for the disease. “Currently, there is insufficient knowledge about the causes of breast cancer. Early detection of the disease remains the cornerstone of control," the hospital said. “When breast cancer is detected early and an adequate diagnosis and treatment is available, there is a good chance that breast cancer can be cured.”

In a Facebook message, the CMC explains how a check works in the so-called Mammapoli. A mammogram is made, which can detect early signs of breast cancer. The hospital advises women to be checked regularly at the outpatient clinic.
