Churandy Martina going to the Olympic Games after all

ARNHEM - The Dutch men's 4×100 meter relay team will indeed compete at the Paris Olympic Games, confirmed by the Athletics Union with the announcement of the entire Olympic selection. This means that sprinter Churandy Martina (40) will prepare for his sixth Olympics in his farewell year, joining a team with Taymir Burnet, Elvis Afrifa, Xavi Mo-Ajok, Nsikak Ekpo, and Onyema Adigida.

The sprinters' hopes seemed dashed recently when Botswana ran a faster time at the African Championships, taking the crucial sixteenth spot on the world rankings from the Netherlands. However, that time was not approved by World Athletics.

Martina expressed hope on Sunday after his last individual race at the FBK Games. “I’ve looked into all the rules and I think based on that, I can go. But other people make the final decision, and they don’t want to say anything yet, so I have to wait for the official confirmation.”

The Olympic Games begin for the athletes on August 2.
