ChristenUnie motion: Curaçao must stop returning Venezuelans

THE HAGUE - According to a motion presented by the ChristenUnie party in the Dutch parliament, Curaçao must immediately stop sending refugees back to Venezuela.

Nico Drost, member of the Dutch parliament, submitted a motion to that effect during the debate with Undersecretary Raymond Knops on the impact of the crisis in Venezuela on the ABC Islands.

Knops advised against the motion. Venezuelans are tested after arrival on Curacao to see if they are eligible for an asylum procedure. Knops says he favors the policy of returning economic migrants. The latter is not always possible because the authorities in Caracas do not cooperate. The motion will be voted on Thursday.
