Challenges at SDKK during special meeting with union

WILLEMSTAD - During a recent extraordinary meeting with the management of the Sentro di Detenshon i Korekshon Kòrsou (SDKK prison), government officials, and representatives of the ABVO union, the need for improvements in the legal position of employees and overall safety within the institution was once again discussed.

Discrepancies have been identified in the allocation of roles to staff, leading to a mismatch between the tasks performed and the official job descriptions. This problem is exacerbated by the use of outdated job descriptions from 2007 and 2009, where not all staff members or positions are adequately documented.

Safety within the institution is also a concern. Employees have highlighted the need for better education and training, particularly in the areas of rehabilitation and professional development. This is crucial for ensuring a safe and effective working environment, both for staff and detainees.

The Ministry of Justice, in collaboration with the ABVO union, has acknowledged the need for action to address these issues. A working group has been established with the aim of reviewing and improving the legal position of the staff. This group is working on a solution for the identified discrepancies and aims to update the job descriptions to restore alignment between the tasks performed and the official job descriptions.

Additionally, the institution has recently received new materials and systems, which are a step in the right direction for improving the working environment. The focus on integrity and professional development remains a priority, with plans for more extensive training and education for staff.
