Long-Term Price Development
Inflation reflects the loss of money value, or purchasing power, due to the rise in consumer prices for products and services over a longer period (typically 12 months). The inflation rate is therefore an indication of the average increase in the cost of living and is recommended as an indexing tool for salaries, pensions, social benefits, minimum wages, and other incomes.
Inflation for a given month is calculated by comparing the 12-month average of the CPI for that month with the 12-month average CPI for the same month the previous year. Measured over the twelve-month period up to February 2025, compared to the same period a year earlier, consumer prices on average increased by 2.5% in February 2025. The 12-month average CPI rose from 100.5 in February 2024 to 103.0 in February 2025.
