Central Bank wants to expand vision on tourism

WILLEMSTAD - According to Central Bank president, Richard Doornbosch, the tourism sector of Curaçao should expand by focusing more on niche tourism and special interest tourism. Those two would generally have a higher added value compared to traditional tourism.

Although the current economic recovery is mainly due to traditional residential tourism, which has picked up faster than expected, according to the Central Bank, there is still room to increase foreign exchange income from tourist activities.

“Countries can also benefit more from the tourism value chain by encouraging the participation of local businesses in tourism-related activities,” said Doornbosch.

Promoting a skilled labor force that focuses on tourism will contribute to an improvement of services and products that Curaçao offers as a tourist destination, according to the Central Bank. That in turn has an effect on the loyalty to Curaçao as a holiday destination," said the CBCS president.
