Celebration marks the completion of the agri business academy

Local | By Press release November 26, 2024

WILLEMSTAD - On November 21, 2024, the Ministry of Economic Development (MEO), Qredits Curaçao, and the Federation of Cooperatives of Production (FKUP) celebrated the successful completion of the second edition of the Agri Business Academy (ABA) during a festive ceremony held at Hofi Cas Cora. The presence of André Dolsma, Commercial Director of Qredits Netherlands, made the event even more special. Alumni from the first edition were also present, underscoring the continued growth and impact of the program.

The Agri Business Academy, a collaboration between MEO, Qredits, and FKUP, plays a pivotal role in strengthening Curaçao’s agricultural sector. The program provides participants with the tools and knowledge to develop sustainable business models, contributing to food security and local production—key elements for the island's economic future.

Celebrating Innovation and Collaboration

The evening was marked by inspiring presentations from the 15 participants of the second ABA edition, who each showcased their innovative agricultural business concepts. These ideas reflect a strong commitment to sustainability and a vision for enhancing Curaçao’s agricultural capabilities. Participants shared plans ranging from starting their own kunuku (farm), including some using techniques like hydroponics, to business proposals that serve the broader agricultural sector. The ceremony concluded with the presentation of certificates, recognizing the hardworking, determined, and innovative spirit of the participants. The certificates were awarded by MEO representatives Raymond Jamanika and Mariëlla-Olaria Maduro, as well as Raiska Herrera and André Dolsma from Qredits, and Lutson Lucas from FKUP.

Collaboration for Sustainable Growth

The Agri Business Academy is part of Qredits’ Agrifonds program, which, through a grant from MEO, also offers 2% interest loans to agricultural businesses. In addition to the lessons provided by Qredits, FKUP offered specialized courses focused exclusively on the agricultural sector. FKUP was able to provide these lessons with the help of funding from the Institute for Professional Excellence (IPE). This collaboration promotes sustainable growth and inspires new entrepreneurs to strengthen Curaçao’s food supply.

Looking Ahead

MEO and Qredits Curaçao remain committed to supporting initiatives that empower local entrepreneurs, promote sustainable business practices, and pave the way for Curaçao to reach its full economic potential. The success of the Agri Business Academy highlights the crucial role of education, innovation, and collaboration in building a resilient future for the island.
