Campo Alegre, former brothel, possibly up for sale soon

WILLEMSTAD - Preparations for the sale of Campo Alegre, a former brothel, are reportedly nearing completion, suggesting that a sale may be imminent. The decision to sell the establishment was made at the request of the Public Prosecutor's Office (OM). The current owner, Wilshire Advisors Ltd., a company based in the British Virgin Islands, is overseeing the process. The official sale is scheduled to take place on September 26 at the prestigious Renaissance Wind Creek Hotel.

Initially, Campo Alegre was slated for auction in September 2022, but the event was postponed due to the absence of qualified applicants who met the necessary criteria. As a result, the OM deemed it necessary to delay the auction.

Following 71 years of operation, Campo Alegre was forced to close its doors at the onset of the COVID-19 crisis. The open-air brothel had accumulated millions of dollars in outstanding debts, and the pandemic-related restrictions dealt a final blow to its operations.

It is important to note that the Public Prosecutor's Office (OM) has yet to officially confirm the impending sale. However, with indications pointing towards the completion of preparation for the sale, Campo Alegre's future hangs in the balance as potential buyers await further updates from the authorities.
