Building plans hotel continued at Doggy Beach

WILLEMSTAD - According to plans, a five-star hotel will be built in the surroundings of Doggy Beach. This is a project by Hans Slier and Cees Zwanenburg, the owners of the Papagayo Resort which is adjacent to the beach.

The project called The Cliff will be built on the terrain of the General Pension Fund Curacao (APC). "Due to the COVID-19 pandemic we are behind schedule for almost a year. The conversations with APC have started again. We are now putting the last dots on the I, "says Slier.

The Island Development Plan (EOP) shows that the location is intended for tourist development. Different environmental organizations protested in 2018 against building plans in the area. More than 2,500 signatures were collected at the time that were then offered to the government and developers.

Slier emphasizes that the limits of the protected nature area will not be exceeded. "When the time comes with all stakeholders, we will talk to all of them and will respect these conditions." He hopes to have the construction plans in 2023 in concrete terms, after which construction can be started.
