Breederode Hogeschool makes a great contribution to healthcare in Curaçao

WILLEMSTAD - During the Bon Bini for Business Summit Curaçao & the Netherlands, which took place in Willemstad from 20 to 22 January 2019, Breederode Hogeschool signed two contracts for educational activities under the watchful eye of Prime Minister Rutte and Prime Minister Rhuggenaath of Curaçao. These trainings will make a wonderful contribution to the health care of Curaçao.

The first contract was signed with the White Yellow Cross. Breederode University of Applied Sciences will train 100 district nurses in nursing skills, such as wound care, injecting, infusion, etc.

The second contract is part of the transition of the care landscape on Curaçao where all healthcare providers in the first line, second line and the health insurer are involved.

The transition not only involves the operationalization of Hospital Nobo Otrobanda (HNO), new hospital, as a general hospital, but also a strengthened first line, so that during the transition, the first and second line can be directly connected to each other.

As a first-line reinforcement, Breederode University of Applied Sciences will train Practice Supporters for General Practice Care (POH). The POH supports the GP in providing care to patients with a chronic condition, such as Diabetes Mellitus and cardiovascular disorders. This is done during personal consultation hours, according to customary guidelines, where physical examination and monitoring take place. The POH also provides information and education and the POH teaches patients how to deal with (the consequences of) their illness. The POH is also a connecting link between various care providers.

Breederode University of Applied Sciences has extensive experience in teaching activities in the Caribbean, both in the field of general practitioner care and nursing and GGZ and various communication training courses.
