Bicentini almost takes the 'coach of the year' prize

WIJCHEN, WILLEMSTAD - Remko Bicentini finished second with the election coach of the year at the CONCACAF Football Association. The Argentinian Matias Almeyda was voted best coach in North and Central America this past year. Bicentini from Wijchen, national coach of Curaçao, finished in second place.

Curaçao has been on the rise in global football under Bicentini (50) in recent years. The team is currently entering the classification in the Nations League. Curaçao previously won the Caribbean Cup and participated for the first time in the Gold Cup (country tournament of North and Central America).

Two teams

Bicentini, who grew up in Nijmegen, the Netherlands was an assistant national coach for years and followed Patrick Kluivert in 2016 as national coach. Bicentini is besides coach of Curaçao also trainer of amateur club Juliana'31 from Malden.

Almeyde led the Mexico club CD Guadalajara to win from the Concacaf Champions League, the highest club tournament in North and Central America and the Caribbean.

 

“I think this is very nice for Curaçao,” said Bicentini.
