Be prepared for a Coronavirus pandemic

WILLEMSTAD - SARS-CoV-2 is the name of the virus, and the disease it causes has been named “coronavirus disease 2019”, based on CDC(center for disease control & prevention)in the US it was declared as an international outbreak in late January due to the number of infections and the person to person breakneck spread, current global circumstances considers that the virus will probably cause a pandemic with more cases are to be registered within this leap year.

Until now the number of cases jumped to more than 79 thousand cases of COVID-19 worldwide, with 2,618 deaths reported from China, Hong Kong, Iran, South Korea, Japan, Italy, Taiwan, Philippines and France, the largest number of confirmed cases outside China was in South Korea (around 900) & Italy(around 230 cases) in the regions of Lombardy and Veneto where a lock-down is in place in several small towns.

Israel may quarantine 200 visitors from South Korea at a military base in a Jewish settlement on the occupied West Bank over coronavirus fears, according to Israel’s Ynet news site, Israeli Interior Minister Aryeh Deri said separately he had ordered South Korea and Japan to be added to a list of Asian countries to which travel to and from Israel was being barred, on Monday Iraq, Afghanistan, Kuwait, Oman and Bahrain reported their first cases, all involving people who had come from Iran, officials in Bahrain said the patient infected there was a school bus driver, and several schools had been closed as a result.

Coronavirus impact on the global economy has been growing, the spread is slowing down business activities around the world disrupting the supply chains, companies such as Nike, Apple, and Walt Disney which do major business in China and rely on it to make goods were hit by major losses on the Dow and S&P 500 index with shares down more than 4%, also travel companies suffered losses, in the UK the biggest faller in the FTSE 100 was EasyJet which sank 16.7%, while TUI and British Airways owner IAG were both down by more than 9%.

In the absence of a vaccine for Coronavirus, World Health Organization advise people and communities to take nonpharmaceutical interventions measures, because the virus is new, the human population has little or no immunity against it which allows it to spread quickly from person to person worldwide, in any case, avoid close contact with people who are sick, cover coughs and sneezes, wash hands frequently, clean the dirty surroundings and objects and be aware that the virus can spread between people who are in close contact with one another within about 6 feet, also via respiratory droplets produced when a person coughs or sneezes, these droplets can land in the mouth or nose or be inhaled into the lungs, the facemasks normally provide a barrier of protection against droplets and large respiratory particles but they don’t filter small particles from the air & don’t prevent leakage around the edge when the user inhales.

World Health Organization is urging countries to protect health workers and to strive to contain the spread of the virus to the highest degree possible to slow its arrival in other places where there is a lack of the necessary means to respond to its threat.
