Basic pension bill in parliament tomorrow

WILLEMSTAD - Tomorrow, parliament will again consider the proposal of the MAN fraction for a mandatory basic pension in Curaçao. It is a supplement to the AOV pension that must be paid by both employees and employers.

MAN's idea has been shelved for several years. In 2012, the current outgoing MAN minister Koeiman already presented a plan; in 2017, an official bill was finally on the table.

The big question is whether there is extra room in the government's budget. In 2019, the Advisory Board already indicated that the basic pension - despite being paid by employers and employees - also has consequences for the treasury.

The bill will be discussed tomorrow morning at 9.00 am in a Central Committee meeting of Parliament.
