Barber Residents Respond Enthusiastically to Large-Scale Dog Microchip Campaign

WILLEMSTAD – Residents of Barber showed strong support for a large-scale dog microchipping event held this past weekend at the Barber market. The event, part of the Bienestar di Animal project, successfully microchipped a total of 102 dogs. The initiative, led by the Ministry of Health, Environment, and Nature, was carried out in collaboration with several non-governmental organizations.

The microchipping campaign aims to assist pet owners in registering their animals and contribute to tackling the growing issue of stray dogs on the island. Local residents turned out in large numbers at the market to have their dogs microchipped, with many also scheduling appointments for the sterilization of their pets.

The Bienestar di Animal project will remain active in the Barber neighborhood over the next few weeks. Until April 28, local residents can contact Rescue Paws Curaçao or Stichting Dierenhulp Curaçao to make appointments for microchipping or sterilization services.

The project is seen as a significant step toward addressing the increasing number of stray dogs in Curaçao. Microchipping and sterilization are regarded as essential measures in managing and controlling the island’s stray dog population.
