Automatic payment extension granted upon filing tax objection

WILLEMSTAD - Submitting an objection to a tax assessment from the Tax Office will now automatically result in a payment extension, the Tax Office announced. This significant procedural change aims to alleviate the administrative burdens on taxpayers.

Previously, taxpayers had to request a payment extension separately when filing an objection against a tax assessment, often leading to unwanted collection actions. This change is expected to streamline the process, saving time and reducing complications for taxpayers.

In recent years, the Tax Office granted monthly payment extensions for objections and revoked these extensions after processing. However, due to the monthly frequency, reminders or collection orders could still be issued, causing confusion and inconvenience.

Moving forward, the frequency of granting payment extensions will increase to weekly. Additionally, a system link is being developed to ensure that a payment extension is granted immediately upon registering an objection. This policy change means taxpayers will no longer need to submit a separate request for a payment extension.

The Tax Office believes this adjustment will contribute to a more efficient and customer-friendly handling of tax matters, ultimately improving the overall experience for taxpayers.
