WILLEMSTAD - Boka Ascension is full of Sargassum weed. The bay was completely cleared up a few weeks ago, but it soon became apparent that new fields with sargassum were flowing towards Ascension.

The seaweed mounts on the coast and fish and other small animals choke on it. Moreover, the rotting of the seaweed creates a bad smell that can ultimately be harmful to people's health.

According to Theo van der Giesen of Unique Curacao, Acension in particular is a problem because the residential area is close to the bay. As a result, the health risk is high.
