ORANJESTAD - Prime Minister of Aruba Evelyn Wever-Croes gave the good news in Wednesday's press conference that the government has started reactivating the economy and has immediately taken the right step: protecting 16 nature reserves.

It concerns the following areas:

1. California Dunes

2. Saliña Tierra del Sol

3. Saliña Malmok / Saliña Serka

4. Saliña Palm Beach / Plas The Mill Resort

5. Bubali Plas

6. Sero Teishi

7. Ramsar area: Spanish Lagoen and Mangel Halto

8. Rooi Bringamosa

9. Rooi Taki

10. Rooi Manoonchi

13. Rooi Lamoenchi

14. Saliña Savaneta

15. Reef from San Nicolas to Oostpunt

16. Strip (east) Seroe Colorado Baby Beach to Boca Grandi.

Earlier this week, the Minister of Infrastructure Marisol Lopez-Tromp signed the national decision.

"We are working on a new and sustainable development of our Country, and in order to achieve this you must first indicate which frameworks are, and in particular, which are the limits where development and nature meet."

We have now legally designated 16 nature reserves as protected areas. We believe that this is the first important step in defining our new economic model, sustainability.

Now that we have established the framework, investment projects will start. The committee in charge of the "fast track" projects has identified this and has found that there is a lot of interest from foreign investors to invest in Aruba.

We are confident that we can reboot the economy and find the right balance between nature conservation and development,” says Prime Minister Evelyn Wever-Croes.
