Aruba Airport: Recovery faster than expected

ORANJESTAD - In April and May 2021, the Aruban airport handled 69 percent more departing passengers than predicted for this period. Aruba Airport Authority (AAA) is happy with the new figures and speaks of 'two excellent months'.

More than 65,000 passengers departed in April, a 40 percent increase compared to the previous month. May registered more than 70,000 travelers, a growth of 7 percent compared to April.

In the past two months, Aruba Airport has recovered no less than 65 percent of the number of departing passengers compared to the same months in 2019. Of these, 120,320 people travel to the US, 7,131 to Europe, 2,468 to the formers Netherlands Antilles islands and 6,184 to Latin America.

Aruba Airport operated an average of 23 flights per day in April and May, a decrease compared to the 35 daily flights in the same months in 2019. The planes were on average 71 percent full.

Aruba Airport expects to recover a total of 60 percent of the air traffic from the year 2019 for the entire year 2021. That is about 760,000 departing passengers. This would represent a 77 percent increase over 2020.
