APC initiates Plaza Hotel project

WILLEMSTAD - Over the past two weeks, the General Pension Fund Curaçao (APC), which purchased the Plaza Hotel, and Heritage Plaza Consortium (HPC) have held exploratory talks with various stakeholders, including the relevant ministries, CTB, CPA, DMO, Cinex, World Heritage Willemstad. APC reports this in a statement.

According to APC, the information has been positively received on both sides and these discussions have generated broad support. There will be more conversations conducted with multiple interest groups soon.

The HPC and APC have high ambitions with the redevelopment of the Curaçao Plaza Hotel with respect for the world heritage status of Willemstad. "A vision has been jointly developed that is aimed at growing the number of foreign visitors to the island," said APC.

With this development, the group assumes several functions, including museum, education, housing, incubators, tourism, etc. With the distinctive Unesco World Heritage status as a basis, many more cultural-historical visitors should be attracted to Curaçao.

According to the APC, it is expected that with a successful implementation of the new concept, a large number of extra jobs will eventually be structurally and indirectly created.

"But that does not happen automatically. It means that the already taken path of a broader Curaçao tourist offer must be vigorously pursued and that new market segments must be tapped and developed. Here, too, there is an optimal cooperation between government and market," according to CPA.
