Almere agrees with statue Enith Brigitha

WILLEMSTAD - Curaçao Olympic medalist Enith Brigitha will be honored with a statue. The placement of the statue in the Dutch city Almere is almost complete. It will be somewhere in the Lumière Park. Initiator Mo Hersi has been working for some time to honor the two-time Olympic medalist with a statue. He managed to raise 42,000 euros through crowdfunding and subsidies. Sculptor Patrick Mezas has since made the statue. Hersi hopes to present the statue in September.

Brigitha won two bronze medals at the 1976 Montreal Olympics. She is the first woman of color to win an Olympic swimming medal. Years later, it was revealed that the two East German athletes who won silver and gold at the time had used doping.
