A successful CURA DOET weekend; Many tasks accomplished and many happy faces during the 11th edition

WILLEMSTAD - After a fantastic kick-off on Thursday evening at the Happy Villa Enrichment Center with inspiring speeches from the CURA DOET Youth Ambassadors and presentations about their future visions for the youth program, CURA DOET 2024 officially kicked off! CURA DOET is part of the largest volunteer action in the Kingdom, alongside BONDOET, CURA DOET, ARUBA DOET, STATIA DOET, SXM DOET, and NLdoet.

Once again, many organizations responded to the call to participate, and this edition also welcomed many new organizations. A total of 256 projects were carried out with the help of more than 4,000 volunteers. The first projects started Friday morning at 7 o'clock, and much of the work was completed by Saturday afternoon around 6 o'clock.

Office of the Governor participates for 11 years

The entire office of our governor, Lucille George-Wout, joined early Friday morning, along with colleagues from LionsDive Beach Resort and all the students from the school, in rolling up their sleeves at the J.W.TH. Schotborgh School to give the coffee room and computer room a touch-up, plant, and repaint new games on the school playground. Many nursing homes and clubs took advantage of the opportunity to organize special activities that they cannot do every day. Seniors from Mahuma i Besindario organized an art day at 7.1 EXPERIENCE while Senior Health & Fitness organized a social tour at Hofi Mango where they sang old songs and made artwork. On this day, they could express their creativity and enjoy nature. A phenomenal afternoon!

At the Juvenile Justice Institution Curaçao, JJIC, more than 50 volunteers participated. The government was also well represented by various organizational units that rolled up their sleeves here. This year, JJIC dedicated their project to renovating their garden benches and creating new ones. Many schools took the opportunity to perform maintenance and brighten up the school playgrounds. This year, more than 20 schools participated in CURA DOET. Frater Evonius School, Advent School Mahuma, Skol M.C. Piar, and St. Antonius College are some of the schools that received help from students, parents, and other volunteers to change the appearance of their school. Cultural organizations, museums, and environmental organizations were also well represented.

Many companies participate in CURA DOET and turn it into a great team-building day with their employees. As every year, many companies contribute with manpower, expertise, and financial resources. CURA DOET is particularly grateful to these companies for their contribution to make the action even bigger. Schools also participate with their students to introduce them to social organizations and volunteer work, and to strengthen the sense of community among young citizens.

The organization of CURA DOET is carried out by Curaçao Cares with the support of Het Oranje Fonds and Reda Sosial. A word of thanks to the entire community, and especially to all the thousands of volunteers who have accomplished mountains of work this weekend.
